MCA Shuts Down Governor Waiguru’s Proposal Of Sh90m For Furniture And Home

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru suffered yet another setback after ward representatives rejected her budget in which she had allocated Sh90 million for furniture and official residence.

The Assembly altered the supplementary budget two weeks ago but the governor, who is facing an impeachment motion, returned it to the House with a memorandum that was rejected by members.

Two-thirds of the House rejected the governor’s memorandum in a tension-filled afternoon session.

Only eight MCAs supported Waiguru’s memorandum aggravating a political standoff between her and ward representatives.

The MCAs also tabled two motions of no-confidence against finance minister Moses Migwi and chief officer (Roads) Joseph Makumi, over figures in Waiguru administration.

The MCAs accused the two of incompetence and corruption with their impeachment motion set for tomorrow morning.

Speaking after the session the MCAs led by majority leader Kamau Murango said that they rejected her memorandum because it was denying them cash for development.

He said the budget committee also removed Sh100 million from Sh320 million allocated for ongoing the controversial Kerugoya Hospital Complex.

Budget committee chairman David Mathenge said the governor has never sat with her assembly to plan on county budget saying she has always contemptuously ignored the assembly.

The governor dismissed the move saying she rejected their supplementary budget.
